Due to certain regulations, I need to seure my database, and be able to provide an audit trail of who and when certain data has been accessed. Does Access Security provide any native logging of user activity?
Thanks, Ken.

Not that I know of. For this sort of thing, a SQL Server might be the way to go. Data accessed via stored procedures which write to the log?

I've seen several threads here that go about adding user tracking. I do have access to a full blown MS SQL Server. I wonder whether it would be better to use Access as a front end? I receive new data every month in Access db's, but importing it shouldn't be too difficult. I have migrated from access to mysql in the past. Any thoughts, opinions?

Ken,

Access as the front end is more than fine. Have the forms call the stored procedures rather than linking to tables or views will get you the transaction logging.

Any hints on where to start learning to get my data into MS SQL and "stored procedures"?
Thanks, Ken

Stored Procs is one hell of a big subject! Basically, they are posh Access queries with extra power.

Best book i've ever read on SQL Server is SQL Server 7 Developer's Guide by Otey and Conte. I believe they also did a SQL 2000 book of the same name. There is a FAQ in the SQL Server forum listing books.
