Hey folks,

Wonder what other people do to document there Server Configs? I have just started to build up an array of documentation on my servers such that in the event of problems I have ready access to all the configs. I am doing everything manually so far and its proving tedious to get to the level that I hope to.

What do you peoples do? I am using Aida right now which gives a preliminary overview of the system. I was also going to try out IBM's E-Gather tool but its output can only be read by IBM. What I was hoping for is a tool that will dump out a full config....

Things such as(but not limited to)
• Hardware Config
• Machine type/serno
• Raid Config
• Logical Drive Config (Drive letters, size)
• Directory dump
• Shares
• Services
• IIS Config
• Recovery Floppies
• System State
• Installed Application list
• Registry

(Anything else you think I should be adding)?

Anyways your help and suggestions are appreciated!

Many thanks,

Mike

Anyone have any suggestions on automation of server documentation? Just a tool that dumps shares, version info, installed apps etc to a text file even would be very helpfull!

Help!

oh and thanks!

Mike

LANguard network scanner will dump a lot of the info you are looking for into an html/xml report. It's free to download and is pretty thorough. Just give it a range of IPs and sit back and wait...

you can get it here:

good luck,

Jeff
