Hello Everyone,
I doubt anyone here is familiar with Hummingbird's Docs Open Document Management Package.
I am having a few issues. The most urgent one is that the file lock is not releaseing the document. For eamaple you are in a word document working. You finish so you close the document. Either you or somone else tries to go into the document and an docs open error mesgage comes up saying that this document is being edited by "so and so" user, and that user can even be you. The only way to release the file lock is to completely exit out of the docsopen program and in some cases reboot the machine. This problem is happening to all 125 users on the network thats use this software. If I get some feedback on this I will post the other issues.
Thanks
Evin

The docs "won't let go" issue is isolated to Windows98 users. As you said, the only way to beat it is to completely exit and then reopen. This is fixed in Docs 3.96 however. Upgrade as soon as possible to eliminate your issue.

No it's not because we use 3.9.6 and Windows/Office XP and it happens to us. Not simultaneously, but we do get the error message mentioned above.

Hi Evin, We often have the same problem - one of our technology managers told me that the document is getting "stuck on the indexer". In order to "unstick" it - closing docs works, but not always. One thing that helps stop this from happening is, on especially big documents, to unclick the "Enable Content Searching" in the Profile. Wait a moment, then try to open. I have had great success with that. You might have to restart Docs that one time, but after that, this particular document shouldn't stick.

Try removing in word under Tools-Options-Save Tab. The always create backup copy option. See if that works.

Good Luck!

Another thing to check is whether the winword.exe process is still running after Word is closed. It may be something else on the PC that is holding onto that process, so DOCS doesn't know that the document has been closed.

Have you checked your launch methods?

Make sure that the Integration Type and DDE Settings defined in your DOCS Open library database are correct for the integration method(s) you have implemented on your user workstations.
