Hi All,

I am just starting to look into the SIP side of the Avaya (CM3.1.2), but just wondering if the SES is propriatry to Avaya or if there was anything else out there that would do the job.

If not, then I guess it is more $$$'s to Avaya. :(

Regards..

By default, SIP is unsecure and has the possibility of extensive toll fraud. Most vendors are not going to tell you this. The Avaya Communication Manager Platform supports secure SIP Trunking using TLS. You can connect a Meeting Exchange server or Sip Enablement Server directly to the CM platform.

There are alternatives. I would suggest if this is just to play with that you look at connecting a SIP gateway via a DS1 to CM. See and the Asterisk PBX.

What you do need to realize is that the Avaya SIP Server is more than just a gateway for passing calls. It also supports Presence and provides a nice IM platform for IP Agents.
