Hello,

My only aim is to link a wireless media player to a single PC.

I have a little home network with up to 3 PC's connected (all windows 2000 workstations) through an ethernet switch.

The main machine delivers ics over lan. The same machine sould interact with the media player.

Do I need a WAP or is it like I can just buy a simple pci card (the receiver type) and configure it to set up a second network dedicated to the media player ?

I am not familiar at all with wireless technology so actually I'm relying on wired concepts :

I am not sure I need a wap (//switch?) while I can configure a direct connection (//cross cable) between 2 network points (pc + media player).
Is this right ?

Basically you have 2 types of wireless networks.
Ad-Hoc = PC's with wireless NICs that can talk to each other.
Infrastructure = An access point that links wireless enabled PC's.
If both machines have wireless NICs you can set them up to use an Ad-Hoc connection without a WAP.
