Do I have to run the Security Wizard when creating the user level security? I cannot get the Security Wizard to work at all...it goes through the motions then gives me an error stating that: "The Save operation failed." I have gone through and complied all the codes (Thank you to tlbroadbent - who always comes through!). I am at my wits end here....so, I was wondering. If I want to set up groups and attach users, do I HAVE TO run the security wizard to create the secured database (I can't hink of anything else)? "Try everything at least once."

Try these steps:

1. Join your new security group by using the wrkgadmin.exe

2. Open a new blank database and import all of the objects from your exisitng database.

3. Close the database and then rejoin the default security file. Then try and open the new secured db. if you can't, you should be set.

Thanks so much....I did what you suggested (recreate a new db and import all the items) AND THE SECURITY WIZARD WORKED!!!!! YOU'RE AWESOME!!!!! Here's my last question on this tiring subject - I understand the process of securing a database - but - When you secure a databse, it re-creates the database file. Do you call it something different or leave the default name it gives? So now I have 2 files (HIS.mdb, and SecureHIS.mdb). What is the purpose of having both these databases?? And.... when I begin to create my groups and users, do I do this in the HIS.mdb, or the SecureHIS.mdb? And then, do the users open the HIS.mdb, or the SecureHIS.mdb??? I believe that is the last puzzle I need to finish this. THANK YOU SOO MUCH FOR ALL YOUR HELP!!! "Try everything at least once."

Move your original unsecured db to a safe place.

You should now do all of your development in the secured db, which you can rename back if you so wish.
