i am using winxp and i have a novell client 4.83 SP2. everytime i use my internet cable connection at home after work - i CANNOT connect directly to the Internet. I have to reboot my laptop to make it work. i make it a point i login ONLY to my PC by clicking/ticking the option on login screen.

at work, we have DHCP - which i need to login to connect to our intrnal network (LAN).

anybody have the same problem?

When you get at home, do you log out and in again? That will reset the network connections, and find your home connection.
Otherwise it will (probably) not go and get a new ip address from your isp, and try to use the one from work which will fail.

Or, you can drop to a command prompt and type:
IPCONFIG /RENEW
That will release your IP and renegotiate one from whichever DHCP server you happen to be listening to.

hello,

when turning on my laptop at home (the first time after using office network), i just provide the following to login:

1. username
2. password
3. tick/check "[ ] Workstation only"

In this scenario - i can't access the Internet. Then, restarting my laptop makes it work.

running ifconfig /renew (sometimes release) didn't work either. i observed it, just stayed there forever - until you press ^Break/C.

When you first open it up, was it off or just suspended? I suspect it was coming out of standby and was trying to contact the work dhcp server.
When you leave work power all the way down, don't just shut the cover.

hi there,

i am 100% sure i shutdown my laptop everytime i leave the office. and i am sure, my laptop is not in standby mode when using my cable connection after work.

hi experts,

until now - i'm still having this problem. just a thought that someone might have the same problem and fixed it.

weird for me to re-boot everytime i use my cable connection at home the first time i tried to connect.
