Setup:
Exchange 2000 BackEnd
-all mailbox stores
-SMTP incoming is NOT open to the public
-Symantec AVF 3.0 installed (will upgrade to 4.0 which supports DNS black lists)
-receives imcoming mail from FrontEnd server
Exchange 2000 FrontEnd
-no mailbox stores
-no Symantec AVF (because of first bullet point)
-accepts incoming SMTP mail for the Exchange organization
I have plans to upgrade the BE server to Symantec AVF/SMS to 4.0 and implement DNSBL. Looking at the SMTP path for all incoming messages, the last "hop" will always be "received from the frontend server". How does AVF/SMS DNSBL work? Does it only check for the last "hop" or will it scan the whole SMTP history to look for a blocked server?
TIA
