When a remote computer connects to the domain using the VPN client they cannot get to the Sharepoint site using the DNS name on SBS. If they use the ip address everything works fine. I have went into the advanced settings of the VPN client setup and on the TCP/IP properties I have specified the DC as the primary and only DNS server. When I do a TCP capture using Ethereal with the VPN connected it sends DNS queries to the DC for all internet requests (ex google.com), however when I try to go to companyweb it only sends NBNS requests. Since companyweb is not actually a computer, and is strictly a DNS entry it does not resolve. If I try to go to (which is the name of the DC), it works fine. What am I missing? I know that I can simply edit the LMHost file, but this works perfectly on some laptops, so I know it should work without having to do this.
