Hi,

We are setting up DNS on a Win2k3 server, with Active Directory coming on board soon after. I was wondering if instead of the normal abc.xyz suffx can you go with a suffix of just xyz??? This will be for internal use only, not internet.

Thanks,

Jeff

I'm hesitant to to give an awnser without more details, but my first response is yes, if you only have the one domain. Could you supply more details? Thanks.

Well, we will only have one domain (for now, never know in the future). We are a Novell shop who have been told by the IT Director that we are dropping the superior product and must go with Win2k3;) Since we are Netware people, we are used to the tree name, where it is just one word. My immediate boss wants to keep it like that with AD. I am really wanting some support against the xyz domain name. Would there be problems if we added a 2nd domain and also if someday it was not internal only.

Thanks,

Jeff

if you're not hosting your own website, or if the domain is internal only, then use the layout of mycompany.local for your domain... With 2000/2003, i'm pretty sure you need an extension (.local, .com, .org, whatever).
