i build a forest domain with 2 dc's in it
nothing else in it just purely a root
install ad integrated zone on each
lets call it plunky.local

i want to add another domain to this
so add a dc install AD to it and it's going to be in the say
first.plunky.local domain

whats the best way to do the dns
do you create a new zone and let it have the soa
or do you point it to the root - install a secondary and then convert to AD integrated

well the defualt, when installing DNS on a DC, is AD integrated

you definitely want this

your DNS config will go off your domain config though

so if you plan on having child domains, you can either create the zones and delegate them to the child domains, or you can just create zones for each child domain on their DCs...and all this will be replicated throughout the forest in the domain dns zones (or forest, whichever it was)

almost got a paragraph there :)

Without dns, you can't have ad. You need to come up with a plan in advance. Once you have a plan, or the thought of one, post it and we'll be glad to help. (Starting with plunky.com?)
