HI ALL...thanks in advance.

I need so help on an DNS issue. I currently have an old server running NT 4.0 which is running my external DNS.
I bought a new server and loaded 2000 Adv. Server on it and I want to migrate the data from the old NT 4.0 server to the new 2K server....what DNS files do I need to copy over to keep all of my records or entries?

Thanks,

Simply put, you want all of your forward and reverse zones to transfer to the new server.

Outlined as follows.
1. setup NT 4 server to allow zone transfers from w2k dns server.

2. install w2k DNS as secondary server (not AD integrated)

3. setup w2k server to request zone transfers from NT 4 server.

3. Once all of the zone info is transferred. change w2k server to primary and SOA for your domain.

4. If you are serving the world as SOA for your domain, as opposed to having an ISP do it, you would need to change your IP registration, or firewall IP mapping to the new server.

Did I miss anything?
