I am currently having the following problem:
I have a Windows 2003 server behind a Cisco PIX firewall. The firewall is open to web traffic, but most other ports are locked down. I am unable to get into the PIX to check and see what port are or are not actually open due to contractural restriction. Anyway.. I have been running my Windows 2003 server for a while with DNS using root hints for DNS resolution. Well, on Friday it stopped. So I set it to redirect queries to our ISP for lookup. That worked hit or miss all day. On Sat I installed a second DNS server outside the firewall and set the Windows 2003 server to redirect queries to it. The second server was using root hints for DNS lookup. That, right now is solving the problem.
Does anyone have a suggestion on getting root hints lookup to working again on my Windows 2003 server behind the firewall? I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling DNS to no avail.
Thanks in advance....
