I'm setting up a new 2k domain and am a little fuzzy on some DNS stuff.

Your private domain name does not have to be the same as your public, correct? I was told to make them different to keep the private one secure.

So here's my question. Assume my public website is Well, to keep the private name hidden, I might name the domain something like domain.bubbacompany.com, right?

Well, my email is currently hosted offsite using mail.bubba.com. So how do I create a DNS entry to send the clients there to look for their mail? Every time I try to make a DNS entry with the correct IP, it automatically tosses .bubbacompany.com after mail instead of allowing me to enter the correct one of mail.bubba.com.

Does this all make sense? What am I doing wrong?

I belive you have to make an alias on your private DNS server to point to your external name.....and your external ISP's DNS server has to have a MX record for you internal Mail Server.

HTH - that might be somewhat right, I dont do much with exchange or email
