hello,

I have a nt4-domain with 1 headquarter and 3 branch offices.
Currently we are using a bind-dns server.(with old bind version)
We now like to upgrade our nt4 to a win2k domain.
I know that I first have to set up a win2k dns.

Can you tell me, how I can put the zone files to my win2k server?
Do I have to replicate the zone-files between the sites?

Thanks a lot
mewi

You don't have to use win2k dns.

Microsoft has a Q article about running later versions of bind with active directory.

thanks for you answers,

I don´t really know the bind-versions.
We want to put the BIND the away anyway.
Could you tell me some tips about designing the zone files
for WIn2k-DNS?
We now have the files named
city1.domain.com
city2.domain.com
city3.domain.com
city4.domain.com

Is it ok to let this names?
And what about tranfering the zones?

thanks a lot for your help

You need a version of bind that supports dynamic dns. Version 8.2.2 patch 7 or later fully supports SRV records (RFC 2782), and Dynamic DNS (RFC 2136).

As far as MS DNS, there are now 3 choices of zones as opposed to two. They are Active Directory enabled, Primary and Secondary.

Primary and secondary work the way you would expect, transfering zones to those that are authorized. AD enabled will automatically transfer to all AD servers.

Your AD domain name will automatically be AD enabled but any other domain you choose to add will be up to you whether it's AD or just a standard primary or secondary.
