how do I make my internal DNS server point to the IP of my firewall and not the root hint servers?

Thanks for your input, but I already tried that, and my name rsolution was not being done by my firewall, but by the hint servers, even though dns forwarding was active and set to the IP of my firewall

It's a Symantec Gateway Security 360, I think it has a caching DNS on it.

If it has then that will need configuring to query your ISP for DNS addresses that it isn't aware of, or you could try pointing your forwarders to your ISP's DNS servers.
