I have a 2000 Server with xp workstations. I setup a printer on the server and listed it in AD. All of the workstations found and printed to the printer with no problems. I came back on a couple of days later and they were not able to print. I tried to reconnect the printer from the workstation and I would get "printer not found...." I then took one of the xp workstations off the domain and tried to rejoin. I keep getting "network path not found" and I am not able to join the domain. My WINS also shows the same error message. I can ping via IP and Name. I am not sure if this is related, but when I try to access a workstation through network neighborhood. I get a time sync error. Any Ideas.

Wins shouldn't be needed here. It's only needed for pre w2k machines. Could you give us more details about the time sync error? You also didn't mention are you using dhcp or fixed ip's. Thanks.

I am running DHCP with scope options. DHCP is configuring 44&46 WINS, DNS, I setup WINS because of some older software that they are using. The Event Id is 62. I have not set the PDC to sync with external server yet.

I think you have two seperate issues.
1)Time sync.
2)Re-joining the domain. On a machine that's not on the domain, what does ipconfig /all show. If it's not a part of the domain, can you ping the servers? A side thought that I came across in real life, I had the same problem with machines not able to access the domain, had a nic in one of my servers going bad. Depending on which server authenticated determined if the user got on the domain. When I took the server with the bad nic off line, all users could get on the domain. Check your nic for the heck of it and see how many good/bad packets it sending and recieving. Good luck.

I can ping name of server, I can ping IP, I can pring name of domain with no trouble. In the Ipconfig /all every seems to be fine. The WINS,DNS&DHCP servers are showing up properly. No other machines are having any trouble logging on.

xp home or pro? You're saying the only the xp machines are having this problem? Need more info. Thanks.

XP pro. I have not taken any other machine out of the domain. I am not having any login problems on any machine except the one that I cannot get to join the domain. When I try to doing the domain I keep getting "network path not found".

What does a tracert to your server show from the xp machines. XP home is notorious for having bad networking, but pro is supposed to be pretty good.

YoOur primary dns is set to the ip address of your internal dns server? (usually on your 1st domain controller)

Claudius (What certifications??)

The primary DNS is set to the ip of the server.

Been there twice with XP first time it turn out to be the Firewall built in to XP i just unticked . other time was the just the clock on the M/c was two days out reset time to same as server

Thanks DG. I have synced the server, but have not done the work station yet.

Thanks to all who have sent suggestions.

I found out why I was getting the "network path not found". It is because it was not there. I found a trojan in \winnt\system32\winupdate. There were 7 bogus files there. There was a service running that was deleting my IPC$, Admin$, C$, and Print$. So technically the newtork path was NOT there. I found that the IPC$ was not there by using the net view command. If I would have paid more attention I also could have seen the proble with the share in the computer management console. Lesson learned and problem solved.

Thanks
