Dns Non-existent Domain

I have currently setup a DNS server on WIN2000 and it seems to be working fine from the outside world, but in house on my unix server I have the resolv.conf pointing to the non-routable address and I receive this message:
*** Can't find server name for address 10.1.50.30: Non-existent host/domain

If anyone can help I gladly appreciate it.
