I have a really weird problem on my DNS server that I can't figure out for the life of me. I'm trying to ping one of my machines... I'm gonna call it pop3.test.com....when I ping it, it resolves to another name completly:

C:\DOCUME~1\m2820>ping pop3.test.com

Pinging george.test.com [66.39.218.112] with 32 bytes of data:

Request timed out.

If I look at the record....it's there. If I do an NS Lookup....it resolves properly....

C:\DOCUME~1\m2820>nslookup pop3.test.com
Server: mydns1.test.local
Address: 10.55.10.14
Name: pop3.test.com.test.local
Address: 192.168.10.23

I cant figure it out....and I have no host file setup on this machine...so that isn't it! Help

Do an 'nslookup 112.218.39.66.in-addr.arpa'

Chris.

Verify your DNS settings on the NIC on your DNS server. make sure those are correct (should be pointing to itself). Now verify the any forwarders on the DNS server are correctas well. From there, do an IPCONFIG /flushdns to clear the machines local cache and the stop and start the DNS service it self to lcear its cache. Also
