Windows 2000 server Domain Controller with DNS. Lately we have noticed that DNS resolution is really slow. NSlookup gives reports: DNS request timed out...timeout 2 seconds

IF I run the nslookup two or three times in a row, I will get the correct response, after typically two timeouts. Then everyone can browse to that specific domain very quickly.

Here is the kicker.....try the domain again in five minutes, and the DNS server timesout again, like it has already cleared the cache or something. Very strange. No changes to my server that I am aware of. Maybe a corrupt file?

Solved. Actually ended up that my ISP had changed DNS servers and it was taking a long time to forward, though I'm not sure why my server does not remember for a longer period of time.
