Guys...

Quick couple of questions - have a situation on my LAN at home where there are two entries for DNS on each client - first points at local network for my DNS server - this is to resolve internal names etc, second entry points and my firewall/router which is configured with a dns address on the web...

My prob is as follows - unless I enter the full string, ie " for most web site addresses my lookups will time out - I can't see thi being anything to do with root hints - Could it be something to do with recursion?

Also on a slightly different note - anyone know if I can choose on a DNS server if it does just iterative queries or does it always attempt a recersive?

Any help appreciated

Why not configure the isp's dns servers as forward lookups on your local server and configure your clients to only use your local server for dns. That way all internal records configured on your local server will be resolved by your local server, and all other requests will be forwarded to your isp's dns servers for resolution.
