Hi,

We are doing a getHostName to do DNS look up from a CICS cobol program (IBM supplied). It appears to give an INVREQ. Can any suggest how I prove it (TCP/IP - DNS) is set up. I suspect we dont have access to the DNS server but I am not sure what to look for.

Regards
Charlotte

Charlotte,
To determine if connectivity exist, you can try pinging to the DNS server via DOS prompt from your host machine. You have to get the IP address of the DNS server though. You should work with your Systems VTAM person. If connectivity has been verified. Verify if the correct hostname is defined for the DNS table, if you've upgraded lately. You can also supply the host name and eliminate having to acquire it from the DNS server. The hostname is needed by the client program to identify the host.
