I have a single windows 2000 DC running with DNS & IIS installed. All internal clients point to that DC for their DNS. Recently, we have been having issues connecting to Websites and emails with the message cannot find server or DNS issue. This is an intermittent issue as the email and internet will then be available two or three minutes later.

I can ping the gateway and DNS server and the internal metwork is running OK.

I changed forwarders several times, reset the modem and router (we are on ADSL) and my ISP is claiming that nothing is wrong.

Does anyone have any suggestions on where to go from here?

You may want to increase the timeout for dns queries. Were there any errors regarding DNS in your logs?

I found with a couple of my clients on ADSL that a similar problem occurs especially when someone is downloading a large file ( or sending/receiving a large email). Seems to hog the router bandwidth which in turn affects DNS resolutions. If possible, see if you have any control on bandwidth on your router.
