DNS issues with 2000 pro

I am having problems with some programs on the windows 2000 professional OS. On some of the programs I am getting errors with communication. The only way to solve this problem is to put a name in the DNS suffix. This only has to be done to some windows 2000 pro's and some windows 95 computers. Does anyone have an idea on what could be causing this problem? This all started when we moved the mainframe to another office and we had to use the name instead of the IP address. I tought it was wierd that it only has to be done to a few machines. Any Ideas. Thanks

Try adding the names and ip addresses to the lmhost file.

Is your network running Wins? DNS?
Does the machine have a static mapping in Wins? Is DHCP configuring the settings, or is it an all-static IP network?

NT4 machines are working ok...are servers? Try issuing an nbtstat -RR on the server. Has it been rebooted since the change?

Right Click My Computer --> Manage --> Services & Applications --> Services --> DNS CLient -->

Change setting to manual. This service loads automatically by default.

We have a local wins server but a remote Dns server in another state. DHCP configured. Nt workstations or working fine.
