I have installed DNS and i can ping all the computers inside my network. But when i go and ping other computers outside my the company (like say for example my exchange box at my other location) i get an unknown host. So I assume the forwarders are not working correctly. Since if I change the DNS entries to my ISP DNS I can ping the exchange server.

Yes, you have probably still have the "." root within your internal DNS heirarchy. Delete the "." and set forwarding to your ISP DNS servers. This way, when a query is made internally to external hosts, your DNS server will forward the request to the ISP DNS servers.

But the thing is I did delete "." and have forwards pointing to the DNS of the ISP right now. And it is still like that.

This might seem like a dumb question, but have you set up your server with a secondary zone of the other primary zones in your network?
