MY
I have a DNS server with a created primary zone domain as com.mydomain

Within this zone, i have 2 hosts AA and BB which they are pointing to internal addresses. So, the AA.mydomain.com and BB.mydomain.com are doing fine.

My problem is, I want to have the third host, CC.mydomain.com (a registererd website domain name) to be resolved using external DNS. I cannot put CC host entry into my DNS server as the mgt doesn't permit it. How could I forward this CC.mydomain.com to external DNS?

At the moment, when I do nslookup for CC.mydomain.com, it gives UNKNOWN CAN'T FIND CC.mydomain.com: NON-EXISTENCE DOMAIN. I know it will look at my local DNS server and not the forwarded ISP DNS. Fyi, i have put the IP forwarding to the ISP DNS server.

Any idea??

Thanks.

Im not sure what you mean by this? Your not allowed to put external addresses or IPs in the zone as its not allowed?

Why isnt it allowed seems kind of stupid.

If the internal domain is the same as the external domain then you will have to enter the information into the internal lan DNS or it wont resolve at all to local clients even if an external server knows the correct address.

You will need to add a A or CNAME record for the CC to point to th external IP or name of the web server.

As noted above, mgt does not seem to know what their directive means. The only way would be to add the external ip of cc.mydomain.com into an A record called cc in your internal dns.
You could create a lmhost entry for every client which contains the same information as mentioned above but this wil have to done on every clients machine - any changes to the ip in the future will have to be manually reset as well on every clients lmhost file.

Note that the above solutions mentioned only work if cc.mydomain.com has a static ip address. If not, then you will be in an unenviable position.Explain to your mgt that these are the ONLY solutions. You are the technical adviser of sorts for the company, so advise them (with emphasis).
