OK iamnu here I am looking for advice tips on xp pro joining 2k domain. NET architecture mixed home environment. dhcpand gateway served11g air router /dsl. Primary subnet 10/100 switched tcp/ip migrating to netbeui. DC=2k client xp fails network id. Sees DC, nslookup false, DC is registered DNS. ipconfig flush register cycling. Google many suggestions few answers. Oh boy ain't this fun workgroup master browser balks at joining domain anyone with similar experience? More xp, pro and home + mac client future expansion planned addition of freebsd primarily to provide pass through firewall. Startup to provide sales service custom systems, WEB services, security, online troubleshooting. Planned Network services include media creation, streaming, dedicated iis mirror http and xhtml link to Yahoo hosted merchant account. Owner creator semi retired senior tech /consultant too much to do, not enough done, much recent bad experience. Not too suprisingly low on resources but plenty of time. Morale high, great inspiration but mired in detail. Thanx in advance.
dcorrell. linkto under construction: also mailto donaldcorrell@ednavilleonline.com also under construction. Much yet to be ftp'd but content too dull qeued for rewrite if I ever get free from boring mundane necessity like sleep or massage creditors, ha that is a good spin on an old lie ;>

This problem is common.
The issue is that your DHCP is handing out public DNS server instead of your local DNS server.

2 steps to correct this:

1. Re-configure DHCP to give out only internal DNS server info.

2. On your internal DNS server, configure public DNS as forwarders.

Hope this helps
