i dont think we have a proxy server...our server's ip address is 192.168.1.2 and our router is 192.168.1.1. in every workstation...there ip address ranges from 192.168.1.1-192.168.1.30, subnet mask - 255.255.255.0, gateway - 192.168.1.1 and the DNS points to our server which is 192.168.1.2. the connection settings on IE are just in its default default...

Can you ping internet web sites...like
You may have to configure your local DNS server to forward internet DNS requests.

To check this, go into your DNS console on your Windows 2000 server. Right click your server name and choose Properties. Then click the Forwarders tab.

You should configure Forwarder IP addresses. Enter your ISP DNS server IP addresses in the forwarders tab.

Note: If you have a "." forward lookup zone, you will not be able to configure forwarders. You will have to delete the "." root zone first. Wait about 5 minutes and then go through the steps to create forwarders.

Forwarding is needed to forward DNS requests to the internet.

Check your Internet Explorer settings and make sure you have no proxy settings checked. Do this by:
(1) From Internet Explorer click on "Tools", "Internet Options", "Connections", "LAN Settings". From within LAN Settings make sure everything is unchecked.
(2) Launch Internet Explorer to see if you can browse.
