I get multiple hostname entries for the same ip address. How can I get rid of this?

Also, when i do a ping to an ip address it returns for instance

ping aaa returns 1.1.1.1 but when i do

ping -a 1.1.1.1

I get a different hostname?

How do I resolve this?

Thanks

If this when you are pinging internet names using DNS? Is it local LAN DNS entries? Can you give us an example?

Chris.

We have just one DNS server on our LAN. We do not use host files.

These are not internet names but local names. I have all our PCs using DHCP which updates the DNS Servers and lease period is 5 days.

Do I have to set scavenging on the DNS and if i have to, how many days should I set it for?

Thanks
