Hey all
I have a issue where DNS A records are updating via DHCP dynamic update fine, problem is after a day or do when I machine IP is released and renewed the original record remains and a new one is created.
IE
A record PC1 192.168.0.2
reboot
A record PC1 192.168.0.3
A record PC2 192.168.0.2

In dns now has two records for 192.168.0.2
This then builds up over time,.
TTL is set to 1 hrs
DCHP set to always update A & PTR
Thanks

If the machine is receiving new addresses everytime it will automatically register a record for itself by default (or explicit settings that have been checked in DHCP). What you can/should do is looking into aging and scavenging in DNS and see the most appropriate way for your situation is to setup record expiration and deletion so that you dont end up with a billion records for each client.

Good luck!
