I've been noticing several event IDs 1000 (userenv) with code 1722. After some research, i've found that this problem can be caused if there is a disjointed DNS Namespace.
I've noticed the computer name's suffix is different from that of the domain (computer.company.(). vs .company.com). Then i noticed that there were no A records in DNS. Only SOA and NA.
Not sure how this happened but apparently the only way to fix this is by running DCPROMO to demote then promote the DC.
I haven't had any noticeable problems except for bad username/password being logged for all windows 98 clients even when logged in (COULD THIS BE A RESULT????), and event 5782 (no registration of DNS).
I'm pretty new to DNS. If i place another DC (without DNS) to replicate the accounts then run DCPROMO on the current DC to fix the dns namespace will i have any issues?
thanks
