My DNS Client doesn't seem to be working right when I start up my computer. My computer can find IP addresses on the LAN without a problem, but when I try to connect outside the network it can't find anything. I finally found that if I restart the DNS Client service that everything works fine. Its not a big deal, but its annoying to have to restart my DNS Client Service every time I boot my PC. If anybody has any suggestions that would be great.

Thanks
Keith

have you checked for adware/spyware ?

reset the tcp/ip stack using the following command from the command prompt

netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt

reboot, try again

I think this problem started after I installed the 9 or so Windows Updates that were released at the same time last week.

Hi, I think this could be of some help to point out the real utility of the DNS client Service.

The DNS client doesn't do DNS resolution. It serves only as a cache for already resolved DNS request.

Over a LAN (even over a WAN 128kbps and higher) you can simply disable it without any side-effects. DNS requests are so small that it won't cause trouble. Why don't give it a try and let me know if this resolve your issue?

Now let's talk about your issue:

Can you be more specific about what works and what doesn't?

When you try to "connect" outside is it with a browser or a PING command?

"Outside" is the internet or an interconnected network?

Do you have a proxy server?

Have a nice day!

Jeff
