Hi,

Today we have a /24 network with a mac-bind dns ( internal ). We are goin to expand the network and gonna go the low cost way. Gonna change the mask to /23. Some mac guy told me that bind dont like that kind of configuration.

I dont know much about dns but this sounds so strange. That bind will be harder to configure if if change the mask. This is a internal dnsserver.

Thx

Marty

For the forward lookup, no difference.

For the reverse lookup, bind is byte aligned.

So you have net 10.0.0 and 10.0.1 (the first 2 nets).

If you split at the first byte, you simply have
a 10.in-addr.arpa zone. If the second byte, you
have 0.10.in-addr.arpa zone. Nothing changes.

But if on the third byte, problem. You now have
to have both a 0.0.10.in-addr.arpa and a 1.0.10.in-addr.arpa.

So for each "network" you need 2 zone files created. You doubled your work. (although you dns management software will figure this out).

That is the only gotcha I can think of.

Thx m8,

Doesnt seem like much of a problem in my opinion.
