I have some W2K servers running DNS in a closed network. They are all root DNS servers. Each is a separate domain/forest. In the DNS snap-in, I "connect to other computer" and all is well until I change one of the Administrator passwords. A prior thread (thread950-461153) ended with "...if the Admin passwords are the same, everything works OK."

That much I know, but I want to be able to change Admin passwords on the individual servers (Security 101, right?). I would like to define a limited-rights user/password on each server to do authentication. Is it possible to specify another account for DNS to use when querying its neighbors?

I have "solved" this problem by adding External Trusts, but that gets hairy (11 servers in a loose mesh over slow, unreliable links...).

you need to upgrade to win2003 and takae advantage of better DNS and primarily, forest trusts that are transitive in nature...
