DMA on CD drive

I noticed that "DMA" was deactivated on my CD-ROM device. Should it be on? How do I do it? I've got the CD-ROM, a CD recorder and two hard-disks.
 
Just as a follow-up, some regular CDROMs cannot run in DMA mode. So if that type is having problems being enabled, you'll understand why (it might only be using PIO Mode).

On the other hand, most CD recorders do use DMA.
