DMA Mode not selected

When I open Control Panel/System/Hardware/Device Manager/IDE Controllers it shows my primary controller as "DMA if available" but it is running in PIO Mode. This is a relatively new IBM Drive (IBM-DTLA-307030). It certainly can handle DMA tranfer rates. What am I missing?
