Hello,

Introduced a new Exchange 2000 (server SP3 Post installed), and moved all users over from the old Exchange server. Left the Old Exchange server on for a period of time to verify everything was working well.

After all SEEMED to be working well, we turned off the Exchange services on the old Exchange server prior to removing it from the domain. Then we noticed when Distribution Groups were used to send an email out, they would sit in queue and not deliver. Turned on the Exchange services on the Old Exchange server and the Distibution Group emails delivered fine.

We went through the processes as outlined by Microsoft for removing an Exchange server from the organization.

I have two thoughts:

1. The distribution list can not be moved and therefore must be recreated on the new Exchange server.

2. I must have missed a step somewhere, and if so, can someone point me in the right direction so I won't have to recreate the Distibution Group?

I would appreciate any help,

Wyz

Hi xmsre,

Default setting...Any server in organization.

Just for grins, either convert it to a universal group, or set the expansion server to a DC with known good connectivity. The membership of a universal group is stored in the GC partition. For domain groups, an expansion server [read DC from that domain] has to expand the membership of the group. This can in certain circumstances fail silently, simply returning a null set.

Okay, I will try both suggestions and see what happens. I'll post back as soon as I know.

Thank you for the reply,

Wyz

xmsre,

My counterpart (geographically separate site, same company), defined the new Exchange server as the expansion server for the group/list. Everything seems to working well now.

Thank you for the assistance,

Wyz
