distorted audio with soundblaster v92 modem installed

Hi I have installed a creative labs sound blaster modem v92 pci modem. I've tried using windows 2000 and xp - each time I play a wav or mp3 it comes out completely distorted through the speakers, regardless of whether the modem is being used or not. DOES ANYONE KNOW A SOLLUTION TO THIS ?
