Hallo,
I ran into this same error code some weeks ago.
According to the msdn documentation, it is a
"general error", so this doesn't help very much.
Verify that the installation runs with administrative
privilege, directories are as expected and so on.
Try to install the msi package manually to see
what's happening.
Turn on debugging everywhere (mdist2, spb, lcf, ...)
with e.g. wmdist CLI. Look at the winstsp reference
for -l keywords that influence debug levels. Edit
the profile/spb to turn on MSI debugging, too.
