Displaying the subreport even when the main report is blank

Does anyone know of a way to have CR (8) display data in a linked subreport even when the main report does not show any records?
Basically, what I'm doing is I have a main report and a subreport, they both use the same parameter field and I have this parameter field selected in the "select data in subreport based on field" check box.
When the main report contains data for the parameter field, I'm able to see both the main and the subreport correctly, but when there's no data to display for the main report, I still want to see the appropiate data for the subreport, but I get only a blank section. Any ideas on how to solve this will be appreciated. Thank you.

Try creating a new main report that always contains everything that you need from the field that you are linking on. Then add the two reports you are currently using as seperate subreports linked to the main report in the same way as you did originally.
