Hello.. another newbie question here..

i've been having probs displaying a subreport within
a main report.

the first time i did it, everything 'seemed' to work just fine, but now i get the outline of the box on my main form with no data.. if i double click the box i get the preview of the subreport with all the data that i want in my main report.

any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated..

Could it have been changed to an on demand subreport?

That's the way they work.

Does this:

"if i double click the box i get the preview of the subreport with all the data that i want in my main report."

mean that you're getting what you want, or that the data is wrong?

i'm not at the office right now, but i know i dont have
it set as an on demand report.

when i click it all the data is correct.

both the main and sub reports are taking parameters. the subreport is linked correctly (i assume) because my valid data is in it..

its just puzzling that it did work..

btw, i am using crystal 8.5

thanks

Don't know what to tell you, it's acting like an on demand subreport.

It's not unheard of for reports to become corrupted (though I've never seen one manifest itself this way), but you might try deleting the subreport and re-importing it.

Make sure that you have backups!!

thanks guys..

i tried deleting the subreport, and reimporting it.....numerous times.. and right before i was ready to toss my machine out the window i realized that when i had the subreports displaying fine before, my main report was being populated with values from the database. this time; however, i was only using the main report to get the parameters and process them for the sub report.
out of a hunch i just put a supressed database field on the report, and presto, there was my subreport with all the data i wanted to see. the only problem was that it was being repeated for every record.
so my final adhoc solution was to have a field in a supressed details section on the main report, and then have the subreport placed in the report footer..
now this works when dealing with one subreport, an i'm assuming adding multiple footers wont be a problem.

did i do something wrong, because according to the knowledge base on crystal descisions, this problem should've been fixed for v. 8.5?

is this the best way to resolve the problem?

thanks

mike
