Hello,

I'm really new at this and I'm trying to learn, but here is what I'm trying to do: Let's say that on my PC is a file called snacks.mdf. I'm trying to use VB.NET to display all of the data in snacks.mdf into a display grid. Then, if the user wants to add, modify, or delete any records, I have an update button on the form that will save the changes, if there are any. I'm absolutely clueless about even starting this project. Can someone post some sample code and instructions for me? I really appreciate it!

Thank you,

Jay

mdf?....isnt that the stuff they use on all those cheesy DIY tv shows?. What type of file format is mdf?

LOL! I'm not exactly sure, but I was under the impression that it was some type of database that SQL could read...

dohhhh of course....mdf and ldf...Main data file and log data file

So..you have the mdf file, but you dont have it on SQL server??. Thats step 1, so you can browse and interrogate the data. Try going into SQL server, create a new database, and restore the file.

You'll have to excuse my ignorance, but I tried to install the MSDE for .NET last night. I thought that it would auto-start after rebooting, but instead I just see the SQL icon with a blank circle, and it says "cannot connect" or something like that. This is apparently my first obstacle! Can you help?

Thank you!!!

Sorry...but you could always try the SQL Forums
