Is it possible to display jpgs on a linuxsystem - with X installed but no windowmanager installed - in perl?

Basicly pc boots up, and shows picture(s). No webserver is installed/used so no CGI or webstuff please.

It's a bit cryptic but maybe you can put me on the right track.
