I got a call from a friend that said their display has gone to 16 colors and low resolution. i told her I would take a look when I get a chance.
Now my old Me PC is doing the same thing, and the mouse is also not working. Are there any new viruses that are causing this?

16 colours and low resolution usually means you need to reinstall the video driver.

Mouse not working? Don't know, but maybe some family member has been playing with your computer and accidentally deleted a load of drivers?

I'll second the driver suggestion but add that trying to get the latest and greatest from the manufacturers' web site would be best. If possible, try the opposite type of mouse; ps/2 - serial. See if you can move the problem by moving the hardware.
Hope this helps.
