Display information on Desktop

On our network I would like to display on the desktop at the bottom right of the screen the PC's equipment number and IP address irresepective of the wallpaper choosen. For example 7555 / 56.
Is this a reg hack thing or something else. Most Workstations are XP Pro.

I suppose you could use the desktop web page thing. Then have the web page get the machines IP address, but I don't know about the equipent number unless you manually entered it on the web page. FWIW, the web page in question could be anywhere- even on the local computer.
