Hello all... I want to capture the sizes of all the disks I have in my True64 Unix system and put them in a file...Daily...
I want to do this so I can create a database with the disk sizes EVERYDAY and see how do they grow in size.
Any help will be appreciated..

Thanx

the df command should give you the output you need

can you send yourself email from your unix system? Mike

Email welcome if you're in a hurry or something -- but post in tek-tips as well please, and I will post my reply here as well.

I checked the command, I can send my self an e-mail. Should I write a simple script that issues the command, put output in a file, mail it to me then process it from my PC?
Can I put it in a crontab file to be invoked everyday?

yes, that's what I was thinking

write a script that runs df and mails the output to you

df | mailx -s 'df output' someuser@somewhere.com

and then call that script everyday using cron

It depends upon which environment you're most comfortable in really. If you're most comfortable in Windows, mail it to yourself there and process the data. Mike

But it will be easier to process at Unix (text processing is what it excels to)
I hope it works...
Unix was made by and for smart people.

hmmm <smile> depends where you're most comfortable... Mike
