hi,
i constantly see this warning message in my eventlog, does it really means that my HDD is failing?
thanks

Event Type: Warning
Event Source: Disk
Event Category: None
Event ID: 52
Date: 1/25/2003
Time: 4:17:13 PM
User: N/A
Computer:
Description:
The driver has detected that device \Device\Harddisk0\DR0 has predicted that it will fail. Immediately back up your data and replace your hard disk drive. A failure may be imminent.

huh ... that's what is says !
It is probably the S.M.A.R.T. part that communicates that.
Better check it if you cannot afford to lose anything.
If in doubt, replace it, prices a very low these days anyway, and, you have a (old) spare disk to play with as a bonus ;-)

how do i know whats wrong with the HDD?

Depends on the manyfacturer, some have diagnostic tools, some don't, check their site.
Otherwise, there are some other tools you can get to do it, search google or tucows.

BUT ! Be careful with those test, some parts of the tests are DESTRUCTIVE for data , READ very very carefully before hitting Enter. If the solution is here, let us know it was helpful so others can benefit from it as too

I have the exact same problem as sentmemail. The only difference is that I have win-XP and due to recent HDD failiure I installed RAID-1 controller. I have had two new HDD's connected to that RAID card for about a week or so and I see aproximately one of those errors every day.
I have had no problems with these HDD's and the only sign of possible problem can be seen in System events list.
How seriously should I take this message?
(Is it just a XP's problem with RAID?)

ps! sorry I posted my XP problem in W2K forum. Just trying to keep similar problems together.

Remove the RAID card and the other drive..see if you get it. It's pretty durn rare that a RAID card goes bad, but i'd keep a backup handy regardless. Why push your luck? There are a lot of hokey drivers floating around for RAID cards..is it a Promise card? Hokey in my experience. Use an older driver if it gains you stability and takes the errors away. RAID is about reliability & redundancy - not the latest & greatest drivers. They don't exactly go hand-in hand these days.. pbxman
