Hello,

I have a laptop with win xp home. The 80GB hdd comes split into 2 parts. They are both fat32 and i only managed to convert to ntfs the 'data' partition. So:
c: (windows) - fat32 - 35GB
d: (my data) - ntfs - 35GB

Is it possible to join these two partitions? Basically i want C to have 55GB and D 20GB space.

You won't be able to resize and join partitions without third-party tools such as Symantec's Partition Magic or Acronis' Disk Director. I strongly urge backing up important data before any partition manipulation.

It may be necessary to transfer your data to C: drive from D: drive before you look at resizing and converting to NTFS. And as previously stated a separate backup of any valuable data is a prudent precaution.

Hello,

now that the system partition is fat32 and the other ntfs, will be able to join them with e.g. Acronis' software?
Also, i used the command: convert d: /fs:ntfs. Can i use something similar to make it fat32; as it was?

Why not convert C: to NTFS instead and have the improved security and reliability that this file system offers?

i have tried twice to convert c: to ntfs, but it is not converted. Every goes fine (after restart the conversion procedure starts), but the disk manager show fat32.
Why that?

You could look in your Event Viewer in case there are some errors occurring which are preventing the completion etc.

Otherwise you could do things the old fashioned way, starting from scratch, format and clean install.

You cant have both fat32 and NTFS on the same partition at the same time.
