Disk Capacity Mis-Reporting

Something very odd is happening on my server.

I have a folder with sub-folders as follows
Users
- Fred
- Freds sub folder1
- Freds sub folder 2
- John
- Johns sub folder 1
- Johns sub folder 2

If I right click the Fred folder, I get 998mb in the properties with 836 files and 200 folders.

If I select subfolders 1 and 2 and then properties I get 412mb used with 687 files and 173 folders.

I have hidden files and folders showing, don't use any kind of quotas, and the server is W2k SP3. The disk is mirrored and doesn't contain the OS.

I am waiting for a defrag on the disk to finish, but expect a couple of hours yet....

Why can't I see these other files and folders ? Any help much appreciated.
