Disconnected Replication

I have a distributor and a pulisher in the same building and they are replicating fine.

I have another server, in Mexico, with which I wish (try saying that 5 times, fast) to replicate. Unfortunately, due to network security, I have only a one way connection to them. Frex, I can copy a file to them, but I can't register their SQL server.

So here's what I'm imagining would work:
I would like my distributor to create a snapshot and then I would manually FTP it to Mexico and they would run the merge agent to incorporate the snapshot into their database.

I've tried a few ways to set this up - but I can't just create a subscription to a publisher that Mexico can't see. How do I get around this?

What is the message you are getting when you try to add the subscription(Mexico) server.

Sounds like the server in Mexico is in a domain that doesn't see or trust the domain where the publisher is. Tell me, what exactly is the network security issue that only allows one type of connection? Am I correct in assuming they are on two separate domains? If so, what type of connection do you have between them? Are you using POTS (Plain Old Telephone Service) lines, DSL, Broadband, going over the Internet?

Replication, or at least Transactional Rep, requires a persistant connection. Merge & Snapshot I think can use non-persistant connections.

If the two domains are in the same forest, you might check higher up on the Network totem pole to see why they can't see or trust each other. If the machines are supposed to be in the same domain, you *definately* have a network problem.

If these domains don't even have the same forest, then I'm not sure how you're going to get this to work. You'll need trusted conenctions between the domains or forests, but I'm not a network guru. Additionally, you'll need to set up some sort of pass-thru security (same SQL/Windows -maybe- user account on both domains) to get replication to work.

They are most definitely not on the same domain. Mexico is actually another company - an outsourcing vendor. So the connection is setup that way on purpose.

I don't see why, if it's merge replication, that I can't create the merge info and then manually copy it and have the Mexico server process the info.

I don't get an error when I try to setup replication, I just can't because it can't see the publisher. I was thinking I could fake it out somehow.
